Throughout many photography expeditions, Nicholas Faestel has developed a curated style inspired by the likes of Ansel Adams and other members of the famous F64 group. Using new technology while maintaining the classic landscape compression typically only capable from large format film, Faestel’s images tell stories of the mountains and the prairie. Each photograph is created as a standalone piece with powerful visuals. His belief is that this elevates an image to an artwork and makes it impactful. In his hometown in Colorado, Faestel learned the importance of living conservatively with the land so that it will remain healthy for the next generation. He has studied at the Vancouver Institute of Media Arts in Canada and the School of Visual arts in New York, where his mentors introduced the works of Robert Adams that portrayed his home as it expanded from a small town to a city with massive neighborhoods in the 1970s and 1980s. This drove Faestel to focus on this landscape that he sees changing today, reaffirming an interest in documenting the differences of how time flows unchecked on nature's clock against society’s needs.
